Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information BVUK Blackburn collects, why we collect it, how long we keep it and the choices you have.

Information we collect

We collect only the information needed to respond to you and deliver our services.

  • Contact enquiries: name, telephone number, email address, enquiry category, message and preferred contact method.
  • Membership applications: name, telephone number, email address, Blackburn postcode, connection to the Bharuchi Vohora community and reason for joining.
  • Volunteer applications: name, contact details, age, availability, skills, areas of interest and DBS status.
  • Event registrations: name, contact details and number of places requested.

Why we use your information

  • To answer your enquiry and provide guidance or signposting.
  • To review and administer membership and volunteer applications.
  • To manage event places and keep venues safe.
  • To meet safeguarding and legal responsibilities.

Lawful basis

We rely on your consent when you submit a form, and on our legitimate interests in running a community organisation. Where we have a legal duty, for example a safeguarding disclosure, we rely on legal obligation.

How we store your information

Submissions are stored in a secure database with access restricted to approved administrators. Access is controlled by role: chairman, administrators and editors each see only what their role requires.

We keep enquiry records for up to 24 months and membership records for as long as membership is active, unless a longer period is required by law.

Sharing your information

We do not sell your data. We share your information with a partner organisation or public body only when you ask us to, or where there is a safeguarding concern, serious risk of harm or legal duty to disclose.

Cookies and analytics

Essential cookies are required for the site to function. Analytics cookies are only loaded after you accept them in the cookie banner. You can decline analytics and continue to use the whole site.

Your rights

  • Ask for a copy of the information we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate.
  • Ask us to delete information where there is no ongoing need to keep it.
  • Withdraw your consent at any time.

Confidentiality and its limits

Personal information should only be collected where needed.

Private information should not be shared without permission.

Confidentiality does not apply where there is a safeguarding concern, serious risk of harm or legal duty to disclose information.
